Plenoptic Modeling : An Image - Based Rendering System Leonard McMillan

چکیده

Image-based rendering is a powerful new approach for generating real-time photorealistic computer graphics. It can provide convincing animations without an explicit geometric representation. We use the " plenoptic function " of Adelson and Bergen to provide a concise problem statement for image-based rendering paradigms, such as morphing and view interpolation. The plenoptic function is a param-eterized function for describing everything that is visible from a given point in space. We present an image-based rendering system based on sampling, reconstructing, and resampling the plenoptic function. In addition, we introduce a novel visible surface algorithm and a geometric invariant for cylindrical projections that is equivalent to the epipolar constraint defined for planar projections.

Non-Metric Image-Based Rendering for Video Stabilization

We consider the problem of video stabilization: removing unwanted image perturbations due to unstable camera motions. We approach this problem from an image-based rendering (IBR) standpoint. Given an unstabilized video sequence, the task is to synthesize a new sequence as seen from a stabilized camera trajectory. This task is relatively straightforward if one has a Euclidean reconstruction of t...

Surface plenoptic function: a tool for the sampling analysis of image-based rendering

In this paper, we introduce surface plenoptic function (SPF) as a tool for the sampling analysis of image-based rendering (IBR). SPF is a plenoptic function defined on the object surface. It can be mapped onto the normal IBR representation via a coordinate transform. By assuming some properties of the SPF, we can provide insightful analysis on the sampling of the IBR representation, for both un...

Approximating the Plenoptic Function

The full plenoptic function describes all of the light passing through some volume of space. This information has at least seven dimensions: a ray of light requires five numbers to locate it (a point in space and a direction), plus wavelength and time. Given a digital representation of the plenoptic function, we can reconstruct arbitrary views of a scene. Unfortunately, adequately sampling the ...

Image-Based Rendering using Image Warping

In this report, I present a complete image-based rendering system. This includes the derivation of a mapping function from first principles, an algorithm for determining the visibility of these mapped points in the resulting image, and a method for reconstructing a continuous image from these mapped points. I refer to this type of mapping function as image warping, because it processes the elem...

Focused Plenoptic Camera and Rendering Focused Plenoptic Camera and Rendering

Plenoptic cameras, constructed with internal microlens arrays, capture both spatial and angular information, i.e., the full four-dimensional radiance, of a scene. The design of traditional plenoptic cameras assumes that each microlens image is completely defocused with respect to the image created by the main camera lens. As a result, only a single pixel in the final image is rendered from each...
